Column Capital

from $20.50

A study of a Corinthian capital from the ancient Roman market, done mostly in gray tones with micron pen linework instead of full color. I wanted to slow down and really look at the carving, all those acanthus leaves and scrolls, without anything else pulling focus.
It's a different kind of piece than the others in the set since it's more about the detail and craftsmanship up close, rather than a wider scene. Felt like a good way to appreciate how much work went into something that was probably just one part of a much bigger building.

Watercolor and micron pen on paper, painted from a photo I took while traveling in Rome.
